Evidence to WPC on Protecting pension savers – five years on from the Pension Freedoms: Saving for later life

In our evidence to the Work and Pensions Committee inquiry we noted that whilst automatic enrolment (AE) has been successful in significantly increasing pension participation, but we are concerned this has created a false sense of security amongst many savers, who may be surprised to reach retirement with inadequate levels of savings.  This could be especially problematic for younger savers, for whom competing savings needs (such as student loan repayments, saving for housing deposits, and increased “resilience” needs as a result of the pandemic) mean it could become increasingly difficult to build up retirement wealth over time…2 February 2022 - ACA response - Protecting pension savers - Saving for later life
